Watch order
Hello, what order would you recommend for VN and anime?
Watch anime first, wait for movie, than read the VN?
Read VN first and then watch anime and movie?

Are there any substantial differences between VN and anime (omissions, extras, differences in story)?

The VN is more detailed than the anime, but they follow the same story. As for the movie, I'm not sure. I would personally read theVN first, though, no matter what. It isn't that long, either.

I highly recommend the VN first, then the drama CDs in this order Snow Globe > Jersualem > Hoshi no Hito > Tircis and Aminte. Then watch the animations at your own leisure because they are beautiful but I believe the VN and drama CDs captures Planetarian properly as Yuuichi Suzumoto wanted it and it doesn't cut out some great soundtracks.

Will do, thanks a lot! (and I also somehow managed to miss the drama CDs entirely)

There are fan translations of them on Youtube, but only subtitled. There is no dubbed version of them.

Yes, I saw the links in another post. i'm also curious to know if it's possible to find a translated version og the light novel, I haven't found any information about it.

I just saw the anime and oh man oh man. That last episode. It hit me right in the feels man. One of the few anime's where I felt my heart getting ripped out and I started crying. So beautiful and yet so sad.

I was about to post the same exact thing that you wrote.

I avoid stories / anime in this genre specifically for this reason... but it is a beautifully crafted anime.
