Has anyone seen the movie? Same emotional effect?
I saw that there is a movie. I'll probably never watch it as I do not want to spoil the feeling I got reading it.
Anyone else seen the movie? What do you think? Worth it? Skip it?
Thanks

If you mean the short anime series: I preferred the visual novel except the "The Reverie of Mankind Spreading its Wings" scene was very very visually stunning instead of relying on the viewers imagination however the viewer imagining part of this scene is part of the experience I think.

The movie Hoshi No Hito is an animated version of the audio story/light novel by the same name and serves as a sequel. However, the animated version features a lot of flashbacks to the main story to make it movie length. If you only want to see the sequel to the story then go with the audio CD. It is certainly not bad and you can skip the flash back scenes if you're already familiar with the main story. It shouldn't spoil the feeling except maybe the ending scenes to the main story didn't have as much impact in my opinion.

There are also other stories in the series (Jerusalem and Tircis and Aminte) but they do not have animated versions I think.

thank you for the great explanation.. I saw the following
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=planetarian&i=prime-instant-video&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
and wondered if it was the same or just an adaptation / compliment to the VN

thanks again!!

With the length that shows on that movie I am guessing it is the anime adapted into a movie by putting each episode end on end (since it is five episodes). Unless it is Hoshi No Hito and I forgot how long it was. Either way they are animated adaptations of the visual novel and the Hoshi No Hito story. They follow the same story with small tweaks to suit the animation format. Watching them after reading the visual novel is experiencing the same story in a more visual way.

I would recommend it to be honest especially for Hoshi No Hito because I don't think Hoshi No Hito ever got an official translation outside of the animated movie. My only dislike of the animation is that the ending half of the anime had less impact than the visual novel.

The movie is a combination of the 5 OVA episodes along with a new sequel story. From what I have played so far it is a mostly faithful adaption, with only little bits of story or dialogue cut.

The movie had the same impact as the game, if not just a little lesser because of the shorter time connecting to the characters.

I definitely recommend it, especially if you enjoyed the game!
Sorry for commenting on an older thread, but the short series is what I watched first and then played the novel. It is most certainly worth it. It obviously leaves out the smaller details but gets a way better picture in your head of how the landscape and scenery looks and provides new smaller details that paint the whole picture. It's very gorgeously animated and the ending was ("better"?) In my opinion. :jena:

all good, I don't follow the "necro-post" fad. If there isn't an answer for any topic, I fully believe in NOT starting a new topic for a question that was already started, but not answered(not to mention it clogs up the search engines).

I heard a few similar reviews. I was curious how they pulled off the "choose-your-own" choice towards the end, as I have not read the VN twice, I was happy with the ending I chose. not sure if it was different.

My one major complaint with the short series animation was Yumemi's ending scene felt a lot less dramatic. I believe this is because it didn't use the song Perfect Human, the camera angles hampered the emotional effect and Yumemi
doesn't appear like a fallen angel with the rain more clearly symbolising as though she is crying in the visual novel
.

I hate to criticise such as good animation but I feel very strongly about how the visual novel did that particular scene.

Hmm, must have missed that. I was reading the whole vn w/o the bgm, lol. Pretty much like one would read a book, nor did I connect the rain as crying. I read it as a more selfless act of a machine with its constant evolving A.I. that it learned compassion in the end. I also (emotionally) added that the junker may have regretted all of his mannerisms toward her at that end as well, making the whole emotional roller coaster of the story even more traumatic.

I connected this because she previously says her model of robot is unable to cry but she has very much wanted to without explaining why but in her last dialogue when she asks "why did everything break?" the rain pooling around her eyes gives her the crying expression when she admits to the loss she feels but has been unable to express. .

I cannot imagine reading without the bgm. The music does an amazing job at setting the atmosphere.

Think of it like reading the best book/series you have ever read - no bgm. The book was just that well written :-D
