Change character in coop?

I want to play with a friend, but said friend refuse to play as the boy. I play with a PS4 controller, and my friend with an Xbox, and my friend also refuse to switch controllers. Is there really no other way to change who plays which character?

Sadly you cannot select which controller is which player in the menus.
My best advice would be to exit the game and replug the controllers in order. Try the PS4 first, then the Xbox. and if the players are wrong, switch the order.

I vaguely remember trying to do so, but the Xbox controller always had priority to the boy. Anyways, I won't be able to play the game with my friend for a couple of months, so I guess I'll buy myself an Xbox controller by then.

Oh, that's too bad. But! Until then, I did manage to make the "Player 1" controller shadow today, while checking the issue out.

Now, be aware that I did connect and disconnect and change the controller settings with no control over what I was doing. (one of the gamepads analog went crazy and changed the settings). I do however have a theory what happend.

Could be that if you plug in one controller and then set the boy to keyboard, you force the one gamepad connected to be the shadow. Then after that is done, you can plug in the ps4 controller. and set the boy to gamepad mode again.
