If you're like me and benefit from focusing on a single building, it can be worth it to skip the barn (and or the bungalow). It really depends on which layout you prefer. Some people don't like the support pillars in the middle of the barn, some people hate the stairs in the warehouse.
In my current solo game I've got the barn being used as a garage so I know where I left my extra vehicles. Just open the door and cram them in there.
I also agree with bs. Everyone knows you only need the motel room and luck at the casino and you're set for life.
