If you do not trust my link, most mods provide a link of their own.
Use the installer.exe, select Schedule 1 and start the game once. An additional console window should pop up.
After that you can download whatever you want from Nexus. Most mods have their installation listed in the description, tho most just provide a .dll file, which has to be put in the "mods" order which was created after starting the game with Melon installed.
(To find it just right click the game -> manage -> browse local files)
As G4M5T3R pointed out, two mods had been confirmed as malware, but only after the modders sold their respective accounts to bad actors. As far as I know, there weren't any other such cases.
