Yes, that's why they're cheap; For early game only, IMO.
if you run along and fill all of them first, then activate them at the same time you do the sprinklers, it will water it at the same time priming it for seeds, which will save you an immense amount of time you would have spent first pouring soil yourself, then hitting the sprinklers after doing so.
it's even faster with coop.
In the early game when you are alone absolutely.
As soon as you have a botanist not anymore.
