Make sure you have one shelf for product input, then one shelf for each mixer stage's input (where you'll put the mixers themselves like Cuke or mouthwash). Use your clipboard to tell a handler to move the product from the product shelf to Mixer #1, as well as the first mixer (let's say Cuke) into Mixer #1 from its input shelf, the second mixer (let's say mouthwash) into Mixer #2, the third mixer (let's say Viagra) into Mixer #3, and so on. Next, use your clipboard to assign chemists to the Mixers. You'll also need to use your clipboard to assign the output from each mixer to be the next one in the chain, as well as tell the game how many of a product you want to make at once (there's a slider above the output destination).

Here's another way to look at it:

Handler:

Product Input Shelf (OG Kush for instance) -> Mixer #1
Cuke Shelf -> Mixer #1
Mouthwash Shelf -> Mixer #2
Viagra Shelf -> Mixer #3

Chemist:

Mixer #1
Mixer #2
Mixer #3

Mixer outputs:

Mixer #1 -> Mixer #2
Mixer #2 -> Mixer #3
Mixer #3 -> Output storage rack for you to collect so it doesn't pile up

Voila, just put the Cuke (or whatever your first mixer is) on the Cuke shelf, the mouthwash on the mouthwash shelf, and so on, and your product (OG Kush in the above example) on the input shelf and your employees should move everything into position for you. It's not a perfect system (I've seen employees glitch once or twice and skip a step), but for the most part it works.

Don't forget to set the output of the final mixer to a shelf (and you can use an additional handler to move the finished product to more and more shelves for a larger storage capacity) so you can get more than just one stack of finished product at once, and don't forget that you can set the input amounts for each mixer if you want (I have mine maxed out).

Oh and the signs from the Blue Balls Boutique tend to help keep things organized so you don't forget which input shelf is for which Mixer.

I wouldn't automate mixing at this point

all they do is steal entire racks of pre-cursor items which is a pain to restock and a massive finical loss

Don't do a ton of stacks at once then? That's why that glitch happens: The employee's inventory fills up, but they'll still try to take something anyways and thus the item they're trying to take just gets deleted because there's no room in their inventory for it. There's no reason to completely avoid the automation process. I've rarely run into this problem (maybe two or three times) but that's when I was mass-producing super complicated weed and meth mixes. Now I have one super complicated coke mix that I make in one and two stack batches and I don't run into it anymore.

While this can be an issue for a lot of people IF you keep it simple the it woks just fine. There is really no need for 8 mix products. You can make it by just fine mixing just the product stand alone and/or with 1 or 2 ingredients.

Now I agree this does need to be addressed but it also can work if you set it up simple and small. I've never had an issue with my small bungalow operation. YET.

It would be cool if there was a resource liek the mixing guide where you could enter:

Example -
Location: Bungalow
Product: Weed
Complexity/Number of mixes: 2

(Configure)

and press the (configure) button and it told you how many of each worker you would need. Not sure if that exists but it would be cool.

then maybe you could choose like simple or optimal layout so if you were trying to min/max it told you the max number of workers you'd need and if you were just trying to keep it simple it would give you just the basic numbers you need to get started.

Haven't gotten there myself yet, but I thought I read someone talk about how they didn't realize that they could have the chemists move ingredients from the shelves too...
