Hes a game developer not a computer technician. He may of not even thought of this....
Most game dev companies run their projects from servers that are in a RAID configuration with redundancies. I didn't see that on the stream so was concerned.
If the entire M.2 SSD goes and he has no project backup.. It will be more than a setback to the previous patch..
The version we get on steam is the exported version of the game. Not the project files... so it's not like Tyler could just download those and continue... so don't really see how you think that..
People seem to forget Tyler is doing this on his own smh
Also, "server technician" =/= someone with any amount of pertinent knowledge.
Git.
Hub.
You have way to much trust in hardware. From the vibe I get from your replies. I guess, you do not initiate backups yourself. If this is the case. You'll learn real quick one day I can promise you that.
I meant no malice by this post, I was concerned as like I said, what I saw on stream with my own eyes was concerning.. so not sure why I'm getting passive aggressive responses...
"Also, "server technician" =/= someone with any amount of pertinent knowledge."
You've never worked in IT and it shows
A company isn't going to just hand over the "keys" to their servers. Especially when the servers contain critical data.
Listen man, Let me use this as a example to why i'm concerned, as f*ck ups do happen
The Pixar film "Toy Story 2" was saved by a backup copy on a home computer. A technical glitch accidentally deleted a significant portion of the film's files. However, animator Galyn Susman, who was working from home, had a backup on her personal computer, which saved the film from being completely lost.
I don't really use discord much but that's not a bad idea. I'll contact through that. Thanks
Assuming he doesn't have his ♥♥♥♥ together is kinda condescending, he hasn't asked for this lol.
I develop, I make music, and pixel art btw. Doesn't mean I don't understand the technology I work with. I worked in IT, and I understand your perspective that the average user is really silly with a computer, but Tyler isn't an average user. :P
I honestly think everyone taking this completely wrong. I don't mean "he doesn't have his ♥♥♥♥ together" I'm not trying to be condescending.
I just saw what I saw on stream and showed concern. It's no different to you walking down the street, seeing someone with their shoe lace undone and telling them to stop them falling over, or helping that person with loads of shopping to their car...
I really don't get why I'm getting the hate from this. I love this game and I've never seen anything like this in the gaming industry so would be gutted if anything happened...
Anyway these comments are going round and round in circles and like someone else said discord is better for this kinda thing so doubt tyler will even see these comments so what even is the point.
I mean, you alluded yourself that you're kinda nosing into his business. :P
When this game ends up flopping because of a dead SSD.. Come back to this thread. I'm actually done with this conversation.
See, "when this game flops because of a dead SSD", you're convinced the dude doesn't have his ♥♥♥♥ together and you're swooping in to save the day. :P
like, come on bro
Go watch the stream smh What I'm commenting about is all there in video format ffs
he streams his DEV videos. He will have people like my self asking questions. This is getting ridiculous.
