Welcome in.
However the fact that Tyler just hangs out on discord, which I've heard is moderated by complete and utter lunatics who shouldn't be let near a computer in case they manage to electrocute themselves while licking the monitor is the biggest issue.
Steam absolutely needs to force devs of EA games or 'games as a service' to use steam as a developer's primary way of communicating to steam customers, taking opinion polls and giving information.
Not a third party system which can easily be infiltrated by terminally online individuals who are so powerless that the ban button is their only cope in life.
It's maybe not polished as best as discord, though it can be used.
Also, the suggestions chat of this forum has much less posts and troll posts. Additionally game devs can ban users on steam forums, however if the S1 devs/forum mods acted anywhere near as poorly as I've heard they do on their discord server, chances are the game would tank.
Discord is a nice "Oh well it's just like a third party thing bro, you shouldn't care if you're banned" shield to any critique on how the moderators there behave. Which allows for hiring absolute dregs.
If a game is in EA on steam, the dev should be required to use that as a primary source for EA feedback.
As for people clownfarming, just like how a forum can be locked unless you buy a game, clown awards = off should be a thing devs can do to cut most of those posters out of their attention farming.
You wouldn't really see this anywhere else other than the games industry. Not just for S1 either, Helldivers 2 is just as bad, so it's not that I hate indie games.
Unless copies of the game are sold on discord, through discord, the roadmap should be where you bought the game.
Imagine going to a restaurant, you order some food, you ask for your steak medium instead of medium-rare. You pay up front.
You realize your mistake and say to the waiter that you want to change to having the steak be medium-rare within a minute of ordering.
The waiter tells you to drive half an hour to a special phone booth from which you can only contact the chef.
When you get there you're told that you can't call out, because the waiter didn't like how you looked.
Any third party program for a game that's indev (and not closed alpha/beta) is anti-consumer.
Hey, come here, No, come closer. Can you hear that? Its the worlds smallest violin.... No one really cares. Go google 'schedule 1 roadmap', bet it comes up tops. Simples!
You wouldn't see customers like this anywhere else.
No one calls the local propane dealer to tell them their super duper plan to revolutionize the industry with 0 education on the matter. :P
If they're unsatisfied with vacuums of one brand, they buy other brand. :P
Customers usually want a product, sometimes feel like some gamers think they're hiring their personal dev lifetime for 20 bucks.
Any time someone feels the need to "point out" its EA, I just think to myself, THANKS CAPTAIN OBVIOUS. What would I have done had you not arrived and just assumed i'm stupid and didnt see the giant banners letting me know this was EA and not a 1.0 release.
Is it the most up-to-date roadmap?
Is Tyler communicating directly via that webpage?
Answers are probably no.
Discord just allows for a degree of separation between the devs and their moderators (primarily the latter) which allows them to act like complete and utter morons (again, mainly the latter) which creates an echo chamber and damages the whole EA experience for people who paid for a game which isn't complete.
If you sell a product somewhere, you should use that place to communicate with your customers. Not a second venue. Only reason discord is used is because it allows for moderators to act with impunity and when they do misbehave, it's much less damaging to the image of the product.
Though if you're so against consumer rights, I've got a bridge to sell you. No refunds.
You've not said why this makes steam a worse place for developers to communicate, create polls and so on.
Unless you like devs who create echo chambers and walled gardens.
You have never worked a retail job in your life, have you?
It's an incomplete product.
I never demanded a personal line, I want steam purchases to be relegated to steam.
Is that confusing to you? Do you contact ebay over you amazon order?
