Soil prices are weird..
Regular soil costs 10 bucks, soil that lasts for two plantings costs 30.. and three plantings is 60. Is this meant to be a 'loss for convince' or pricing oversight?

I am pretty sure it supposed to be a loss for convenience. Using the longer lasting stuff saves time and allows your botanists to grow more. I just use the cheapest one time use soil though myself.

Yeah, it costs more because it doesn't need to be poured as often as the single one. After a while money stops being a problem so it's always going to be a better option after early game.
the prices is fair when you consider the time you save
you skip a round of soil mini-game or botanist care cycle for each tire
you can save time and money on the green soil if you grow manually and use the auto filler
When automating you need the space that the long lasting soil provides. That way one shelf can have 10 plantings with an additive.
Yeah, the losses are there because better soil is more convenient.
Shelf space costs money, a botanist will only pick up from a single shelf, when using fertiliser, PGR or Speedgro (all 3 + a drying rack should be used to max out coca) so long life soil is a must have if you dont want to spend all day running around, or waiting and paying for ordering deliveries to micromanage your botanist.
