Are we safe to use mods for this game? It's been said that malware was uploaded to some Nexus mods which everyone uses as their go to mod site. Tyler hasn't come out and said anything. So I am wondering if Nexus took care of it or we should still steer clear

As a rule of thumb for now, I'd suggest steering clear. Seems this game in particular is being treated as a prime opportunity to target people (most likely due to the sudden popularity and with that the potentially large portion of mod-seeking players being unsuspecting).

I figured, It is sad however since there are already a few great QOL mods lurking about

Yeah look, not every mod is going to be malware; but it's a case of user discretion advised.
If there's any way to tell, try to make sure you're only getting mods from trusted sources and authors.
If a mod sounds too good to be true, it might well be. Just be careful out there until some sort of official stance/framework is established.

Thing that really throws me off is that third party Melon Loader, Never even heard of it before and its strange to have to download that for mods to work instead of just creating a mods folder etc.

you act like youve never used a 3rd party mod loader before, theres lots of them out there and new ones always popping up, another one is bepinex. just because you havent herd of it doesnt mean squat, btw just making a mods folder doesnt do anything, mods folder is created by melon loader
