I think some sort of iron sights would be better than cross hairs

Use the steam crosshair game or download something like crossover.

Alternatively you can just have something in your hands to see the center of your screen, quick swap to sidearm for precise shot, and then your skill issue is gone.

But a simple dot until that happens would be nice.
