I understand this is used in many other recipies but can we, for a moment, understand.

A "JERRY" can of gas, is 5 gallons.
1 "Jerry" can mixed with 1 "marijuana" = 1 (ONE) marijuana.

Where the ♥♥♥♥ did the rest of the gasoline go?

Instead of "Jerry" cans, you can use anything else, and it would make sense in a 1:1 ratio.

5 gals for $5 though and you get no extra product or a better ratio?

It's a video game. The Jerry can does not represent 5 gallons of gas. It represents 1 video game unit of gas. This has been universal in games for like 30 years dude.
