You can stop paying idle employees to prevent them from iterating every 3 sec or so, or you can like... unclog the production line. Should fix your performance.
I assume every idle employees iterate like that, but botanists absolutely have the worst impact.
I have... almost 50 employees scattered across the map? And for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles, I have fully functional weed setups with everything needed to plant more, harvest, and bag in the back room of each laundering property you can own. My point is, I very very likely have more employess and things on the map than you, and I have zero lag.
I would highly suggest the notrash mod. Trash isn't a thing that exists anymore. You gotta think, with how many actions an employee can do that creates trash, multiplied by however many employees you have on the map, you're getting a little tick of lag with each one. Trash items are physics objects. They respond to outside influence (obviously not all the time, but I'm making a point, bear with me). When a piece of trash is spawned, it falls into place as the physics of the world takes hold. If two pieces of trash are touching, it's just a tiny bit harder for the game to calculate the physics of that interaction. Now imagine you have 8 botanists with PILES of trash at their feet. You can see how the problem can get exponentially worse.
On top of that, each time you wake up, trash is spawned around the world. But I think this sort of happens in two steps. First, you wake up and the game "spawns" all the trash outside, but it's not really spawned, just it's location to be spawned. Next, you run within rendering distance of said trash and THEN it gets grabbed by the physics of the world, creating a tick of lag. Now imagine there are 100 pieces of trash lining a street, and you go hopping down that street on your golden skateboard going 150km/hr. You're going to hit a LOT of ticks of lag, which are gonna pile up and make the game laggy as hell for a minute.
