How does time pass in this game? I am stuck with a "waterlogged" pot of soil and can't plant a seed until it dries a little.

I have been standing here staring at the waterlogged soil pot for about 20 IRL minutes, with the quest saying "Plant a weed seed in the empty pot"

I see no clock anywhere to indicate time is passing. Did I break my game?

the in-game clock is on the home screen of your cell phone (in-game). 1 minute of real time is equal to 1 hour of in-game time.

2 things: you should be able to plant the seed even when it is watered, and time stops at 4am

Open up your phone, there's a clock on it. Also, is it by chance 4 AM in-game and there's blue text on your screen telling you to go to bed? Because if so, that's why time isn't passing.

Do you see blue text telling you to sleep to progress to the next day? Time stops at 4 am. There is a clock on the main screen of your phone.

OK I pulled out my phone and it says it is 12:00 AM. I waited a minute and pulled it out again, and it is still 12:00 AM. It's like the game is waiting for me to plant this seed to progress for some reason. But I can't plant the seed until time progresses. Very weird.

this sounds broken, first try quiting to the main menu and going back in, then quiting out of the game and going back in, then use the verify file integrity things

Note to everyone else at the very beginning of the game: Don't water the pot of soil before putting the weed seed in it. :(

Well crud, I backed out to the main menu and it hadn't saved any progress in the prologue so I have to start completely over,

I think you've got something weird going on, normally it's only waterlogged for like a second.

Oh, if you were still in the Prologue back in the desert town, that might explain what's going on. I'd have to go back and check, but time's probably set in stone for that portion so you have unlimited time to learn the mechanics. But yeah, in general the game autosaves every morning when you start a new day, or you can save manually by clicking on a box next to the front door.

If it's showing as waterlogged, OP isn't able to get to the part where you plant the seed and cover it with dirt piles at all. Normally the waterlogged status is only when water's actively flowing, though.

Yes, it was in the Prologue. It allowed me to water the dirt in the pot before I put the seed in which broke time and the tutorial. I restarted the prologue and did the sequence in the order it expected the second time and had no trouble progressing.

if you're in the prolgoue and get waterlogged soil before planting the seed, hold right click on the pot to pick it up and place it back down. this eliminates the soil from it and you can refill it with soil, this time plant the seed FIRST, and then water it.

I have never seen waterlogged before at all. How do you actually get that problem? because I've always watered before planting because that's how the tutorial told you to do it.
