Botanist can't be assigned to a pot

I have a botanist and I've done everything possible to assign them to a pot. No matter what, they will keep standing outside and not come in to work. I had to fire them. Is this a known bug?

you hold the clipboard then select the botanist with E then click on the line that shows pots in the clipboard, then click on the pot?

then make sure there is money in their briefcase on the bed and make sure to set their supply shelf location and stock the shelf with seeds and dirt

The workers will not work if its 4 AM, also they need to be able to path to anything they are assigned to, so that might be an issue. Otherwise, make sure they have enough money in their briefcase.
