There are a few known ways to mitigate the issue but they aren't perfect and might just cause another employee to stop working.
Punch the employee to push them in a diff direction
Reset all their tasks and their bed
Back out to the main menu then reload the saved game
Fire the employee and hire a new one
It's a bug the dev will have to fix
There are a lot of things to look out for in automation, angle of approach to the work stations and who does what. And who hauls what products to what shelves, you dont want two separate workers competing to supply the same item form separate shelves otherwise items can get stuck in their inventory causing overflow then they just eat items and you can watch a shelf of items disappear into the void as they pick them all up and delete them if your not careful.
Just make sure all workers are handling their own thing and not competing with eachother for anything, picking stuff up is probably not a problem if they compete to pick up the same item but setting stuff down will be if they have stuff in transit to fill a stack and both do it at same time one will be left with items they cant set down.
