How to trade items with friends?

I can't figure out how besides dropping them in a storage

Thats all you can do for now. You can drop it in a van, or at a storage crate outside a shop. anything that has an inventory that you can both access works.

Put the items in Storage, Have friend loot storage. Easy

what do you mean storage crate? The wooden boxes can only be picked up, not stashed inside. Unless you are talking about something else entirely.
