"Indian Giver" achievement is a bit insentive
Absolutely loving the game, however this achievement, it's name just doesn't sit right. It's neither historically appropriate, and honestly, is quite insulting to any first nation people.

Can we call it 'Doublecrosser' or something similar that doesn't have negative implications for the indigenous groups?

I do love the game, but I'd love it if we can get rid of the stereotype here.

You only speak for yourself. Native American writers, activists, organizations, and cultural institutions (like the Smithsonian) consistently identify the term as offensive and based on harmful stereotypes.

arent half of them ran by meti or white people tho
Irrelevant. The term 'Indian giver' is historically offensive to Native Americans, regardless of who points it out. Métis are Indigenous. And who works there doesn't negate the term's offensive history.

It's a video game where you make and sell drugs and can kill random people and police officers. But this is where you get butt-hurt?
Those are things you do in the game's fictional world. Using a real-world ethnic slur in the game's text is a different issue. It's about lazy, offensive naming, not gameplay actions.

is it really a slur???

i mean like we were taught english.
and we taught our people this. as a tradition to not just randomly disregard gifted items.
etc yada yada blah blah.

coming from a native its indian giving is it a slur no. its a teaching.. i can see how it can be misconstrued as a slur.

It's not a slur, its a derogatory expression. These things are different.

While meanings can differ by community, 'Indian giver' originated as a settler insult based on misunderstanding Native customs. That offensive history makes it function widely as a slur, which is why it's problematic in a public game.

One person's opinion doesn't erase the term's documented history as an offensive slur used against Native Americans. Given that harmful origin and how many do find it offensive, it's still inappropriate for public use like in a game.

also i should mention the achievment is called "Indian Dealing" not "indian Giving"
indian dealing is what happens when you let a bunch of natives open a casino on reservation land.

misunderstanding Native customs
soooo it's not making fun of Native customs then... great. thanks. moving on.
Someone already farmed this the other day.

If this is not bait then you should read some unbiased research on the history of what really happened and what is happening today (especially stuff written by Natives if that is for some reason necessary for you to believe it) instead of listening to actual racists who just want us all to hate one another.

you expect me to read? no thanks. if i dont know the history, then i cant be making fun of it, can i? i think you should stop reading about crap that happened 300 years ago and play video games and maybe inhale some substances to help you let go of stuff.

aussie dev. great dev. great game.

it's not being woke to try and suggest we avoid stereotypes...
I get the fact that the term 'indian giver' became a common phrase at some point, but it still kind of sucks.

Regardless. i'm not being 'woke', i'm being reasonable in pointing it out, as it's an easy 'fix' not for wokeness, but because imho, i'd much rather not continue to ♥♥♥♥ on Native Americans because European settlers misunderstood them..
So in other words you woke sjw bs. gotcha.

Do you also think the Ts should be upset about the “jennerising” effect changing genders? Should people be upset about tropic thunder changing skin color?

Nah, nobody cares.

This to me is the perfect point. This game is made in multiple ways to be offensive and funny and outlandish. I kinda feel like its apart of what its meant to be.

I was talking to OP bro not you

I do not think that the achievement is offensive in any way.
