Story Progress wiped - World still intact?

Hi!
Hit an issue this morning where I loaded up my 30 hr save, but the game starts at the intro level again, with me creating a new character.
If I continue with the character I will spawn in the world and all my property, cars, setup is all still intact, but my personal characer, inventory and story progress are wiped, effectively starting me back at the beginning of the story.
I wont be too hard to continue, as I say my property is all there, i can just motor through the story again, but I'm concerned about potentially corrupting my save this way.

Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance!

dev keeps putting out updates even though we're vehemently dogging him about the fact that his broken updates are corrupting peoples' saves

it's whatever though, this game is suffering from its own success and i dont know what we expected when we put all our trust in a game thats coded by one single f*cking guy
