Below is how I have mine setup and I have no more issues; [C] = Cauldron, [X] = 2x2 square

Unassign bugged cauldron from the chemist who's using it, after save and load it should be back to normal and you can pick it up.
EDIT: Re-assigned chemist, saved, quit application, reloading, now cauldron is not bugged anymore. Thanks for this tip!
I noticed one time i had 3 cauldron that were ready to start, when the chemist was done starting the first cauldron the animation changed on the third one, locking up the first cauldron until reload.
Not sure if it had something to do with leaves getting delivered while 2 or more cauldron are queued up ready to start for the same chemist, but splitting the jobs solved the problem.
Note: I have 4 cauldron in a line with no space in between.
