Duo Players Or Friends being added

I already started my progress through Schedule 1, If i invite a friend who just recently bought the game into my lobby will they able to continue basically from my set point and we wouldn't have to start a New game or together? Or how would it work if i have someone im interested in joining my game where i'm at now.
