This happened to me early game, and that's where I'm still at now, so not sure if there are upgrades later.
Also the order in which you put down pot, rack, light matters (this order works).
Sprinkler and Pourer sometimes mess up employees, but there is also no reason (afaik) to use those when you have employees.
If neither of those work you might have to whack Michael. Let's face it: He has it coming.
I am assuming that you have the basic stuff done already. Pots needs to be told where their output goes (setting the seed is optional and only relevant if you produce multiple products). Michael needs to be told which pots/racks to work, where to get supplies (and that thing needs to have both soil and seeds). And his bed needs to be assigned and paid.
You need to setup the Botanaist but also the individual pot.
Also i hear that the "slacking" is a legit feature so as someone said - give em a punch just as a check.
A patch dropped lastnight that did alot of fixing of pathfinding etc. it maybe the case they need a jumpstart or "reset" consider doing that too.
