from what I can tell you need 2 botanists one on the drying racks and one on the plants
you need 2 botanists, one for drying rack and one for plants
1. a botanist needs to be assigned to a drying rack in order to dry it. This is a separate job from growing - so if you have 8 racks and 8 plots you would need 2 botanists.
2. The "Supplies" on a botanist is only for growing supplies - seeds, fertilizer, soil. In order to automate supplying the drying racks, you need to set the output of the plot to the drying rack.
3. Don't forget you also need to set the output of the drying rack to a shelf or packager/mixer.
Last thing, note the quality needs of the people you are selling to, as customers do NOT pay more for higher quality product. Many people in the first couple of zones are fine with low or very low quality product and drying racks are useless. You're actually better off using the additives to increase yield and lower the quality and selling that. Seriously, they don't care.
You won't find people demanding premium product until you get into Uptown and Suburbia, later in the game. The way the quality works is those customers have a chance of rejecting anything under premium product (usually around 15% fail rate).
Given all that I didn't really start playing with drying racks until I got into those regions and was getting into coca production - doing it for weed is almost useless unless you've got a high end mix or bricking it for suburbia/uptown clients.
The botanist placing the leaves on the rack cannot dry or move the dried leaves. They have to be ‘assigned’ to a different dry rack to dry them and move them.
Say you have 3 botanists, 6 pots each, going to 6 different drying racks.
Susan works pots 1-6 and puts them on racks A and B
Then she works racks C and D.
Bill works pots 7-12 and puts them on racks C and D.
Then he works racks E and F.
Grace works pots 13-18 and puts them on racks E and F.
Then she works racks A and B.
That’s how you make them work on racks and pots.
Another way to put it,
The botanist cannot be assigned/work the same racks he/she supplies.
U need a second botanist dedicated to the drying rack. Each rack is assigned similar to a pot. You can also use the same botanist on the drying rack that you assign pots to if you haven’t assigned 8/8 slots to your pots.
