Schedule 2 (II) Drugs

The drug has a high potential for abuse. The drug has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States or a currently accepted medical use with severe restrictions. Abuse of the drug may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence.

The funny thing is, weed should probs be classed as "schedule 2" because of its medical use - but the "reefer madness" fear mongering stays strong

Schedule 1 is a reference to the type of drugs we are making. A schedule 1 drug is a drug that is very susceptible to addiction and abuse. It is usually illegal to possess in the united states. other countries might rank things differently.

The American system is so funny, not that us up north are too much better. Did you know mescaline in not illegal up here IIRC.
It is in reference to the way marijuana is regulated in the US. Many believe that it is Schedule I because of its limited medical use and toxicity. However, it is actually because the US government placed a patent on the drug and desires to control its use strictly. Patents for naturally occurring substances are no longer issued, but still, the US government clings to its hold on MJ.

MJ does have potential for abuse, there are plenty of potaholics. All day users. It's like any other thing you can abuse, food, alcohol, cigs etc etc.
