It is a sandbox game, you can progress at your own leisure...the only "time" constraint is dealing out to clients at the appropriate times and night time police will arrest you on sight so you have to be more cautious at those times.

if you take an order, they are on a timer. but you choose the block of time that you want to do the delivery.

you can do stuff at your own pace, there is no time limit on the day (except if you accept a deal, you need to finish it before they leave) i once spent a whole game day at the casino lol. also when you unlock dealers/workers they can do it all for you and you collect the money, only downside is you don't get xp if your dealers sell, just the money. i once spent 3 hours irl after curefew in my place just growing/packing, running to the gas station to get ready for the next day.

also if getting tons of messages is overwhelming, just turn selling for everything you have off, and just put on what you have in stock, or keep everything off, and you can go and find the people and sell to them with out getting texts.
