its honestly not as far fetched as you think, given how much of, at least what I played of the game so far, is effectively a vr interaction awkwardly mapped to a mouse and keyboard.
most games when it comes to vr have the problem of remaking the basics of game play functions for vr, this one would just have mapping where you hold stuff to your hands.
Yes, I agree with you. If he made this game alone, things will be a little difficult for him, but of course he will also have a profit, and he needs to think about that side. If it is made by the community, the virtual reality mode would be nicer, but I don't know if the game supports the mod.
the thing is, almost all of the interactions I have seen in the game so far are already vr like interactions, the only thing that would change is instead of using a mouse to rip open the top of soil and then a or d to tip, you rip it open with one hand, and then it ties a and d to whatever access that is when you rotate your hand.
most modern game engines already have vr hooks that modders are able to force the use of (see the unreal injector, I believe there is also one for unity as well) from there its more or less mapping stuff to hands, watch a video of getting ready or not to work in vr for a good idea of how far basic stuff is doable without much issue/more indeapth access to the game, in ready or nots case holding something like a rifle 2 handed for stabilization doesn't work, that requires more code for the interaction, but damn near everything else is doable.
the main things would be optimzation in this game, which this game already does pretty ok with, I honestly dont think its far off from being able to be played in vr
