"smart" shelf?

Stay with me now.. A shelf that only accepts a certain item. It would allow for much easier handling of deliveries, a handler could be assigned routes from a delivery van to smart shelves, they would take an item from the van and place it in the smart shelf that accepts that item

Oh, I have an Idea based on that. At work (real work), we have computerized shelves that we fill with our products. It has a shelf number, in the shelf we have slots with the products, you need one, let down the shelf with the parts and take them out. With that, we could have, lets say, 64 slots and 8 shelfs in one? Of course, it would be super expensive, for the balance.

I was thinking something simmilar.. What if we can put a sign on a shelf and you put an item on the sign.. Only that item can be stored on that shelf then. That way, you never have to worry about making a wrong mix when you have workers.
