White/Black deck
Anyone have any tips on creating a decent white/black deck with basically just these starter cards. I am pretty new to magic and could use a little help. I saw one of the quests was to win with that deck type but not sure on what to use.

Haven't tried using a white/black deck yet but I've had reasonable success with my Black/Blue deck. Probably split 80/20 between Black/Blue respectively.

In order to complete the daily quests, you need to use the Deck Wizard to help assist you in deck building. I would start there. It's not the best way to build a deck but it is what is needed to complete the quest.

In general though, you want a nice bell shaped mana curve. So several 1-2 cmc cards, majority 3-4 cmc, and a few 5-6(bombs).

As for card specifics, I don't know what cards are in your collection so you're going to have to experiment for yourself.

Black/White does seem to be enchantment based though. So try adding enchantments and cheap creatures, with black/white removal spells.

I'm still fairly new to Magic also. What's CMC?

Wait... something-mana-cost?

Converted mana cost. Its the total mana cost of the card. So 2B is three cmc, 2 colorless(any color) and one black. CMC is used to differential cards with additional mana costs. Cards that have X in it's mana cost will count as zero when calculating CMC. So a XBB card is still only 2 CMC.

The only coherent theme using the current card pool in Duels is B/W enchant. In the future there should be others.

In regular Magic, B/W soldiers was a draft archetype not long ago and then with Ravnica there's the Orzov Guild and the 'extort' mechanic which is a life drain type of thing. Historically though B/W don't always pair very well.

Blue/Black U/B has always made a decent control deck and graveyard recursion is a pretty strong mechanic in Duels.

Thanks for the info guys :)

If you look at the multi-colored cards or the archetype decks you'll see they are all designed around a particular theme or mechanic. With the limited card pool it's going to be difficult to design around anything else. I've found the mono-colored decks to be very entertaining, though.

Is there a deck size limit in paper magic?

No, but there's a minimum of 60 for Constructed and 40 for Limited. 100 for Commander, which I'm a big fan of haha.

Nice haha. Hm, I wonder why they havent given a more generous deck size than 60, then. I'm sure it was available in previous games?

I have a sloppy WB deck that I've been surprisingly successful with. It mainly involves the cheap 1B lifelink vampires and dual-colored knights (who get lifelink if you own an enchantment on the field). Those plus the cheap white buffs (Divine Favor, Nimbus Wings, the +1/+1 Tap target when Attacking one whose name escapes me), Heliod's Emissary to get buffs out, the cheap hawk, bat and Vanguard, maybe some Kinsbaile Skirmishers makes for a cheap white aggro deck with a nasty lifelink component.

It needs some cleaning (I made it before really getting any boosters) and suffers against some decks but it works more often than not even in its sloppy state. Flying 5/5 Lifelink vampires have given me a good number of "Player replaced by AI" messages. Might serve as a basis for you to do something.

i have a good w/b deck which wins most of the time but by now ive opened something like 25 boosters and most of the better cards ive got are white and black..
Rut1077 Aug 4, 2015 @ 3:34pm
I've only opened about 5 boosters and havent gone anything to exciting. But I made a W/B deck and am doing ok with it now, got to rank 5, so its fun
