Why I suck at creating Mill decks?
Hiya guys :D. Could anyone share with me any good examples of powerful Mill decks? I don´t get it, but every single one I create its trash xD. Do I have to wait for Hedron´s crab and Traumatize to make something decent lol?

Now seriously. So far I´ve tried mono blue, which I suppose is solid but I keep dying xD; Blue/Black in which I find moar combos but I keep dying. Then I tried something weird B/G (my idea was ok If I don´t mill in time maybe I can ramp meanwhile and conclude the game with a G´s revenge or another fatty, but...squishy squishy. Ocasionally only ocasionally I managed to cast Nissa´s revelation, showing a G´s revenge and making a huge nice mess thanks to 2 Sphynx´s Tutelage it was like trolololol yes but low % to do that. And my last attempt was an izzet-mill deck xD? With red control but I don´t get it, its not working that well...

So any idea please so that I can wreak havoc specially at 2hg :P?

Thanks in advance.

The mill cards we have available aren't great but against mid range or other control decks you will do ok. I have tried U/G, U/B, and U//B/g. I feel the green doesn't add enough to the deck. No point in fogging damage when you could just be actually killing creatures instead with various black removal cards. U/B with basically all the card draw, lots of removal and all the blue bounce spells seems best. Still going to get smoked by any pure aggro deck but you'll do well against anything that isn't really fast.
I have tried many times to add tutelage or talent to my (generally very competitive) U/B control deck to up its chances in the mirror. Every time I quickly removed it. U/B can't afford the card and mana spent on mill effects outside of countermand. The turbofog setup offers a combo-control tactic that, though it's not as long-term as U/B control's removal and counterspell suite, works despite the resources spent to get the milling online and lasts long enough for the mill tactics to close.

But we have to play a long game. We have so few mill cards (tutelage only for all practical purposes), no tutoring cards, and moderate card drawing ability. There are going to be a ton of games where we don't see a tutelage early so we are looking long term. I've tried both and I find keeping it to two colours in U/B and focusing more on creature control than repeated fogging is more effective than the versions with green. Others experience may vary but the green was ineffective for me. I went very heavy on removal, bounce and draw. I don't even use the counterspells, I found I basically never had mana open for them.

none of my mill decks ever rely on countering my opponents spells or creatures... but i still win... maybe you should think more of defence than cancels?

I think milling, with a sprinkle of removal and control can be very viable. You do need 3 Tutelage, Jace, lots of draw and preferrably a backup win condition, though.

Control mill decks look very strong in 2HG right now from what I've seen, as well.

You forget Talent of the Telepath. :/

The key is to set up mill as an alternate win condition especially in 1v1 matches.

Here's a deck that I made that works well:

Creatures:

1x Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
4x Gatecreeper Vine
1x Nissa, Vastwood Seer
3x Whirler Rogue
2x Pia and Kiran Nalar
2x Outland Colossus

Enchantments:

2x Evolutionary Leap
3x Sphinx's Tutelage
2x Flameshadow Conjuring
2x Zendikar's Roil

Spells (Instants and Sorceries):

3x Telling Time
4x Twin Bolt
4x Calculated Dismissal
2x Talent of the Telepath
2x Chandra's Ignition

Lands:

4x Island
4x Mountain
3x Forest
2x Rootbound Crag
2x Hinterland Harbor
2x Sulphur Falls
2x Gruul Guildgate
2x Izzet Guildgate
2x Simic Guildgate

While I realize that 23 land may seem like a bit too little, it works. Try it and you'll see.

If you'd like some REALLY effective mill decks, feel free to add me on steam. I have a Blue/Green mill deck that is a beast (no wildsizes, btw). And others that are equally as effective. Btw... I was the person who posted the last reply.

The reason I won't post it here is because I don't want people to copy it en masse.

My decks also work in 2HG very well. Better than in 1v1, in fact.

That goes without saying. How many cards do we have in this card pool for milling? 10? 15 tops? You got to fill that deck with something. And the deck you posted looks decent, for sure.

No kidding. It's a lot easier if you have a partner to defend you and at the same time only have to mill one of the two opponents.
