Magic Duels
Best deck against superfriends?
Anyone found a deck that consistently does well against planeswalkers ("superfriends") decks? All these decks look pretty much the same, sylvan advocate/ranger on turn 2, creature removal on turn 3, then tireless tracker on turn 4 then just throw down the planeswalkers once the board is clean.

All of the cards individually are easy enough to deal with, but unfortunately they can't be dealt with until after they've already gained the opponent card advantage such as playing tireless tracker on turn 4 with a land drop and casting planeswalkers that draw more cards. So now I have to spend my whole turn and probably cards from hand to remove a planeswalker that they have already replaced the card for. Pretty soon I have an empty hand and they have a full hand. All the efficient removal for planeswalkers has not made it's way to magic duels.

It's just so frustrating that Wizards designs these cards to be so overpowered. I'm sure they do it because they want to make these attractive "all-star" cards that people want so bad they they'll buy packs to get them, but still. It's so much more enjoyable to play games against people who take average to good cards and really construct a cohesive deck that maximizes the benefit of every card rather than just play they same stupid decks that throw down bomb after bomb without much thought. Since i'm sure someone will post saying that using planeswalkers decks takes a lot of skill too, let me just say now that deciding whether to cast languish or planar outburst or whether to add Ulvenwald Hydra or Woodland Bellower to the deck isn't a high degree of skill. I swear to god that tireless tracker must be in over half the decks I play against. I don't blame people for using it, but it just gets so boring to play against.

So back to the topic. What are the best decks that people have found to counter these decks? I have decent success with using a Fevered Visions deck (win half the time). Fevered Visions is great against it because it makes all that card advantage just bite them in the ass, they take damage for all the cards in their hand. Also, since so many of their spells cost a lot to play, they will probably only play one spell each turn anyway while I gain a lot more benefit from my extra cards. Unfortunately, superfriends often use Nahiri and Reclamation Sage which can destroy Fevered Visions. Obviously creature based decks tend to suffer since these superfriends decks run so much (mass) removal.

Wow, are you ever getting off your own topic here.

For example, your ranting at Tireless Tracker isn't a problem with the Superfriends deck--that's a problem with Tireless Tracker. And your note that Superfriends decks "run so much (mass) removal" isn't a problem with Superfriends either--that's a problem with mass removal.

(Pretty much any deck will work well if it has either or both of those elements)

Stick to the problem at hand: "how do I deal with planeswalkers?" Well, one obvious method is counterspells. Another is burn. Devour In Flames delivers a nice hard hit that can kill a lot of planeswalkers (though it's risky because you have to bounce a land back to your hand to cast it). A third possibility (depending on the kind of removal you're up against) is Benthic Infiltrator; it takes 4 damage to kill one of those bastards, it can't be blocked, and each time it hits a player it eats one of their cards. Watching opponents' planeswalkers go straight from library to exile would probably make your day and provoke a few ragequits....... :)

There's probably other solutions, but I'm sure a bunch of other people will post a million of 'em. So, basic theme: don't go off the rails. Focus on the real problem.
Blue/White heavy control has no problems with planeswalker decks. Infact its almost a gauranteed win everytime.

I don't think that mentioning tireless tracker is getting "off topic", it's a key fixture in every planeswalker deck. The post is about defeating the deck, not the specific planeswalker cards. Planeswalker decks would be much worse if they didn't have good cards to play early game and board wipes - it's all part of the decks.

Jesus - what cards are you running? do you just drop cheap creatures early then counter board wipes and planeswalkers? What rank are you playing at?
Well i played Board controll with a little mill touch, mill works great against Superfriend, Boardcontroll too so it works 4 from 5 or 6 games depends on oppening hand

Well, I do. Tireless Tracker is card draw.

Card draw is a key feature in EVERY deck, planeswalker or not. Any deck in this game will work better if it can draw extra cards. Except possibly a deck that used to have Perilous Myr in it, but only because those decks crash the game if you try to use them......

A deck with Tireless Tracker is not a Superfriends deck. A deck with the mentioned-in-the-OP mass removal is not a Superfriends deck. A deck with planeswalkers is a Superfriends deck.

(a red-green deck with Tireless Tracker and mass removal in it would be pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mean even with no planeswalkers!)

I play Superfriends....and uh I can guarantee my play turns don't quite go like that......

maybe you're not doing it right then lol. Every other deck I play at rank 40 is superfriends so it must be working good for a lot of people.
Have two decks (Abzan mid-range and GR<> Eldrazi) that do well against the SF decks.

I tried a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mono green deck against a superfriends deck and worked amanzingly well

SF doesnt do well against decks that can blow you up in 2 turns

So Liliana's gone soft and Garruk is somewhere in the woods. This man did a how-to on dealing with the superfriends:

Lack of fanservice in this game. Where's Quirion Dryad when you want her......
3 types that wreck Superfriends:
1. U/W Flight/Control(include Reflector Mage as non flying)
2. Esper U/W/B
3. Jeskai U/W/R

Control, Exile, and thinking ahead.
