The phrasing is a little ambiguous I guess. When you're not very used to how Magic cards work, it's no as obvious. When I started out, I wasn't sure if Akroan Line Breaker[gatherer.wizards.com]'s +2/+0 was only 'til the end of turn or not.

lol but it's so obvious, why would first strike give you double strike? That's where all logic goes out the window

Aside from that for 4 mana you can't get that many abilities off one card, and that many abilities is so overpowering it's insane. And other reasons.

He has some card that is older (also a white) That has a similar mechanic. He believes it functions like it does.

It reads almost identical.
