They are unlocked for free in the last patch.

Little late to the game. Majority support ended a few years ago, and they just ended any remaining support. Now the game is locked to those who already have it, but with all cards unlocked for free.

You never bought individual cards. You earned coins by playing (or spending real money) and turned those in for booster packs until you collected each entire set (or at least until you got the cards you wanted).

They unlocked all content. There is nothing to buy anymore.

Magic Duels is a special format of Magic: The Gathering.

In regular MTG you have up to 4 copies of any card in your deck. (unless the card itself says otherwise).

In Magic Duels it is based on rarity. You can have 4 copies of a Common, 3 of an Uncommon, 2 of a Rare, and 1 of a Mythic Rare.

Basic lands of course have no max limit.

I mean why do they give 2 of a kind of that type and 1 of a kind of that type?

You cannot buy cards in Magic Duels.
They gave everybody all the cards Magic Duels has.
You got all the cards for free.

There are 2 reasons for restriction based on rarity (4 common, 3 uncommon, 2 rare, 1 mythic)

As only sets starting with Origins were included, and finally ending with Amonkhet, this was an attempt at balance.

Magic Duels is for the casual player, or an intro to encourage people to play the full game in either paper format, or MTG Online (MTGO).

In case there was any confusion on how the game works...

There is a finite set of cards in the game. You cannot buy more and more as it is not paper cards (or MTGO).

So Duels only has a set amount of cards. And as of the last surprise update, every single card the game has was given to all of us for free. You now have everything. Nothing to buy, nothing more to collect, just play the game.
