MTG Arena and Magic Duels
Does this mean Magic Duels is dead?
Will I be able to bring my hard earned or Brought Cards over to Magic Arena?

My guess: absolutely not. WOTC has had a clear pattern of making clean breaks from each game they make and starting over fresh each time.

WOTC had announced since June that there would not be any additional content in Duels anymore, so the game is kinda in zombie state since then.

They also have announced that they will let the Duels servers running so the game is not officially dead, but it wouldn't be a surprise if they unplug them later on the road.

Currently, no transfer mecanism between Duels and Arena has been announced. That would be a fair compensation but I doubt it will happen.

All you can do so far is linking your Duel Account to your DCI number to get privilegied access to the closed beta of Arena, and a pathetic 2000 golds in Duels.

This is Terrible News!
~What's to say theyre not going to be doing the same again after youve put X amount of money and time into this new title Arena!

I dont want to play Magic Duels anymore!
And as ill be playing Arena, Because lets face it!, I will be trying this new title..
Ill will never put money into this new title because I cant take it seriously, its going to be a quick pick up and play title. and unless youve got money to burn, Ill not be putting money in because ill know in the back of mind that the title will be dead in a year or so and this will not inspire me to play the game long term earning rewards and building to my collection!

Why has the best Digital copy of MTG taken a path where they just filter through new players.. The physical Card game never did this!

If its looking for anykind of success it needs to follow the same guildlines as the table top game!

Heathstone or whatever its called doesnt do this! thats a success!

Updating one title will keep longterm players aswell as rotating new ones.
Captain_Narol Sep 9, 2017 @ 4:28am
You're wrong, Doe, they is also set rotation in Hearthstone.

Indeed, set rotation in Magic and Hearthstone is a cunning trick to make people buy new cards as their old favored decks become unplayable.

thats fair, ive not played hearthstone and didnt expect this type of money making tactic within it.

The MTG games have lost a player, very little games these days reward loyelty.
Shame, I enjoyed it while it lasted.

You NEED standard block rotation to maintain a balanced metagame. Eternal formats (e.g. Modern) involve fundamentally broken mechanics, and only survive via extensive card bannings. So pick one - have your Standard deck rotate, or have your Modern deck get banned.

The game could of just updated! moving from Duels to Arena is only aesthetics

I think that since they're moving to a new developer who is using a new engine to run the game on, that implies two things:

1. the new dev didn't want to pick up Stainless' sloppy seconds, having to sift through their (probably) amateurish code, so they just start over from scratch so they have *full control mode*

2. the new engine allows for easier coding of cards and interactions, which seemed to be the prime cause of us not getting the coolest (but difficult to code) cards; like Emrakul. I believe it was said as much in the video where the guy says Unity just makes it easier to program in cards.

Plus I wanted to comment on your previous comment about rotations: In that rotation not only helps keep the game balanced, but also interesting, since it gives new products a lot of room to breath and garner attention if they're in a smaller meta, rather than having to compete with things from ages ago, llike in Urza's Block.

Plus, it allows the game to evolve over time, as business success is always something that is dependant on the circumstance and context of the environment it exists in, rotations allows WOTC to be adjusting their game to fit the gaming market better as it changes too..

There's a thing you're missing, Finrod:

In Duels, you can't buy singles. In real life you can. Therefore, a semi-eternal format like we had with the current Magic Duels isnt broken because people cant quickly bash together a netdeck without spending months of collecting or investing a TON of money and HOPING they draw the cards they need.

This doesnt change that in reallife MTG you get to keep your cards

They still could have built this new game and used it as an update for Magic Duels.. just have it look like Arena.. Not scrap an entire game thats based on progression and building up an collection after years of playing or even spending!

Magic Online has always been one game whether they rotate cards or not!

Im not entirely sure but isnt it only game changing cards that dont get recycled?

MAGIC DUELS = MTG video game
MAGIC ARENA = MTG video game

are you a fan of MTG video games?

are you a fan of being a TROLL!?

nuff said

anyway, Magic Arena should be hype, I'm sure it will be a decent game and bigger fans will find it lots of fun while others will shoot it down. Same deal, the real magic players just ignore the trolls and cry babies.
June-pie Sep 9, 2017 @ 12:07pm
Now now, don't call hiim a troll, his complaint is very legitimate. Noone would like having what they feel to be their hard work and possibly money taken and thrown in the trash. Hopefully arena will have it's own personal legacy format when standard rotation happens and pushes Ixalan out, so we can enjoy more formats in the game and more freshness in the standard meta.

... and hope that they don't bin Arena like they did duels in a year or so, so that this is the final version they stick with and keep improving into the future.

Please don't make me eat my words WOTC.
