Trouble on the Flying Scotsman
Hi

I might be doing something very wrong, but when I play this route, the train always comes to a halt midway through the first tunnel. Then it stards rolling backwards

As far as I can see I'm doing nothing wrong, brakes are off, I've pressed the AWS system. (although I cant see any warnings?)

Is there a bug?

Not that I know of. Which route & scenario (it's name) is it? And are you driving with simple or expert controls? If you can provide the answers to these key questions, there's a far greater chance someone will be able to help you with your troubles. Kind regards.

Hi

The loco in it is the 55 'deltic' diesel train, it's the default on the Session. I'm using advanced controls.

Thanks

As mentioned before. unless you're able to give the route and name of the scenario you're trying to play. Then with the best will in the world, it's unfortunately going to be impossible to help.

So Route is ECML Kings Cross - Edinburgh, session is the flying scotsman.

Late answer. But problem is probably that you give it too much gas and have wheelspin... Use throttle gently and always look your speed when putting more power. If speed start going down put throttle one notch back. If now speed start to climb again, just wait and try bigger power setting later when your speed has increased.

I did this myself aswell...

Just warning... That is 5,5 hour mission...

So I've tried it just leaving the throttle on the first setting.. still not getting past the tunnel.

And thats way too low... Start with 3 and add more slowly when you get some speed. I think I used setting 5 most of that tunnel. Maybe switched to 6 pretty end (tried 6 earlier but speed started to drop so back to 5 and more waiting).

Just in case anyone else stumbles on this problem: The loco your driving is very detailed in terms of simulation. So detailed even, that when overheated, it fails and won't work for the rest of the session. You can check your engine's power by checking the top middle gauge, the one with the big A on it.

To drive up the tunnel, which has a 1% incline all the way and for many miles after, you must keep your engine between 4 and 6. 6 below 20mph will cause wheelspin, just like 7 below 30. You'll get to 100mph about 15 minutes into the session. Take it slow.

So: Keep your throttle as low as possible and be patient. You are driving a very long train with one locomotive, so it is not supposed to dart away like any regular train would like to do.

I had to try it at least eight times before I figured it out. It was rather frustrating.

This caught me out the first couple of attempts, could not work out why I was going backwards. Might actually have helped if the wheel slip indicator actually lit up to let you know that is what is happening! Bit like hitting the AWS acknowledgement actually changing the indicator back to yellow, but hey, one of many 'features' already discovered.
