I'm not too keen on European models, so I couldn't tell you if they are detailed to what they are supposed to be, but I can tell you, the locomotives included are detailed like what you would see in real life.
If you are talking about stuff off the Download Station, its a massive pool of all the content out there from the Trainz series, some content have the graphics that a graphing calculator could render, others are top of the line, at least that I find.
If you are getting stuff off the download station, might I recommend the ES44 Tier 4 models by davidakridge.
<kuid:578474:100187> - a BNSF ES44T4.
If you want older models, i recommend content by btvfd, SP SD40T-2 ver 3 Speed Lettering is one of my favorites up loaded. kuid to it - <kuid2:359354:100790:1>
Or if you are willing to spend a little cash, Jointed Rail has good content for sale, Mostly modern models, but good none the less. Payware and freeware they actually have, which are also good content.
This link is a screenshot of a pair of Union Pacific Dash 9-44CW's I bought from Jointed Rail. http://steamcommunity.com/id/Btrainz2mcraft/screenshot/492394111304028322

Hope this helps at all.
I have at least $400 in JR items as well, so I am not downgrading them at all. It just depends on how much mad money you have I guess.
