Trainz: A New Era
Realism compared to Dovetail's Train Simulator series?
I've usually gone to Dovetails Train Simulator series (With 3rd party add-ons) for my fix of realistic train sim. How does T:ANE compare? I remember the old Trainz being more like a model train sim than an actual train simulator (A.K.A Cab Mode was really bad!) So how does the new one stack up? Especially since it's on sale.

In short -- Tane has cartoonish, long-outdated graphics, very poor optimisation, numerous unfixed bugs...and it's frustrating as hell trying to get it to work as it should even with a powerful PC.

If you want confirmation of that simply read the many negative posts on this forum plus reviews.

@ Useless Debt Goddess. HI.
The best adivice I can give you is to go to the official forums and have a read there. You will get a lot better overall balanced picture about trainz. You will need to register to see all of the subjects, but it will be worth it. https://forums.auran.com/trainz/forum.php

Also if you go to the screenshot forum, you will see a decent number of screenshots of what folk are achieving in T:ANE and other trainz versions. There is a video thread (top) inside the screenshot thread.

Both games suffer realism issues especially when it comes to the pyhsics of a real train.
But for a more realistic cab operation you are still better with DTG Train Simulator. TANE is still more of a "model railway" game like you said. Being Australian there was limited content for Train Simulator so I switched to TANE and was blown away by all the Aussie stuff.

I like Train z better , It's the building part.
As Sharpey said, Trainz is a more a model railway game while DTG's Train Simulators do their best to simulate realistic operations. Trainz also has a much larger modding community than DTG and there's plenty of third party sites to get locomotives, rolling stock, routes, and ETC for TANE.

The latest version of Dovetail's simulator is visually much more realistic and has very detailed trains, just not very many of them. On the other hand, Trainz encompasses more train types, environments, and build options.

True it does look great, but yet again it falls way short of a realistic train simulator due to poor pyhsics.
