Since the game has been officially released now, you can try your luck on a 3rd party keyseller website to obtain your copy in the EU. Make sure to first check the website on Trustpilot or google them to see if they are legit.

I've only tested Germany, but I don't remember if we tried gifting the standard or deluxe.

Apparently for someone else, it only worked when trying the standard one for some reason.

I believe the reason for the high price differences are our taxes. We also pay more for ingame currency in games compared with the US.

so you'll have to definitely find a Hong Kong person

This might not actually work. Steam likes to region lock key redemption, too. My Taiwan gift cards became USD despite my account, location, and download region all showing Taiwan. I have a feeling it just went off my wallet history.

I have a feeling there was probably a step missing when you used the gift card. Is this a physical gift card like the ones in 7-11?

Because when you go to top up wallet funds in your account, it should give you an option from your original currency or NTD dollars (considering you had a VPN on or are in Taiwan physically).

It was digital, but when I redeemed it, it went to USD immediately. I never received a prompt. I can change currency when I go to buy games, but it doesn't seem to carry my USD balance over. They definitely weren't USD gift cards, either, because they redeemed for clearly converted amounts.

EDIT: I can confirm that even on the website there is no step to select currency. The issue is the note below the redemption area.

"Note: If the gift card you attempt to redeem is not in your currency, it will be automatically converted if redeemable in your region. Not all gift card currencies can be redeemed in all regions."

Basically, it just automatically converted it. If I can somehow make a Taiwan purchase, my entire wallet with switch to Taiwan, but without a Taiwan billing address with matching payment method, that's impossible for me.

I looked into it and I'm sure you're right that only Hongkong region can gift the game to Germany.
