How did the game say your photo shooting skill is bad?
Honestly, taking pictures is art, and beauty lies within the eyes of the beholder. So I won't let the game drag down my amazing shots. :cool_seagull:

After each chapter when you pick the photos, they become rated 1 to 3 stars.
I do wish it would tell us the score criteria. At least Pokemon Snap tells you what it wants. It seems like this goes off of a lot of the same rules, though. Girl fully in frame and centered seems to do best, even though that's amateur hour photography.
chapter 1
i got one 3 star photo so far, a few 80+ 2 stars.

my one 3 star photo got me 97 marks,
misaki solo pool side, full body shot.

-3 exposure
default focus

the few 80ish 2stars i took misaki and honoko together, full body shot of them both sitting on the sofa.

i actually played chapter 1 because i forgot to take many pics during my first playthrough and only got 3 pics taken at the end of chapter 1.

in my 2nd playthrough i use the "T" time stop to take photos often.

changing angles, moving the camera etc.
wait, sorry,
the one i got 3stars 97score is default exposure.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3452976983&fileuploadsuccess=1

the 2star next to it is 92score with -3 exposure.

wait, 92 score still 2star?

does this mean 95score and above only 3star ???

Yeah, 3 star seems difficult to achieve. I would be surprised if exposure impacted the score. I doubt aperture/focus does, either.
So... as I could see from your pictures, the more you match the girl to the environment, the higher the score will be

Or am I wrong?
Suddenly getting 3x 3-stars photo today, with some 2-stars

EDIT: My game crashed while I was trying to document my findings, resulting in the 101 score photo not submitted (I have a white/gray screen crash in the submission screen). Time to retry the chapter again I guess.

Here's what I tried to do:
Exposure (the mid-bottom bar in the camera)
1. For morning/day/sunset shooting, try to underexpose the shot (-2 to -3) just like IRL when shooting the girls who are exposed to direct sunlight.

Seems the game (sometimes) treats the sun as overexposing the shot ("blinding" your camera and whiting everything in your shot IRL), ruining your score even though you see them as normal lighting in your screen (no light meter/histogram like in a modern day digital camera in the game UI, so please tone the exposure down to compensate).

I don't have an OLED/miniLED monitor with good HDR option, so I haven't tried HDR mode in this game.

2. For nighttime outdoor shots, use normal to -1 underexposed (still in testing, but I got a bit more 2 stars out of it). I haven't been able to pinpoint good exposure settings for indoors, but underexpose -1 to -2 seems to be a good idea to try.

Moments
1. Some of the girl's gestures/poses when they are talking to you/another girl have a much better score than others. Try to freeze frame everytime a girl is smiling or have a "candid pose" moment. I suspect the game has a girl "smiling" status because I can seldom catch them in a smile while the girls are conversing but the game didn't count it as smiling and vice versa.

2. Photoshoot scores tend to be higher in my case when the girls are intentionally posing for a photoshoot "event" (triggering the camera automatically).
A good shot angle when you are snapping a photo (with usually a greater score result) in this "posing for photoshoot mode/event" seems to trigger a comment from her about you being pervy or something when you are not freeze framing, so try to move the camera around and try to snap some photo without freeze frame to ensure a good angle.

Framing the shot
1. The game tends to treat (at least in my current playthrough) a medium-close to medium-long framing for better scoring. See the following wikipedia article for some reference. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shot_(filmmaking)
2. I don't really know a good combination for close-up shots, the game feels rather haphazardly scoring those, so further testing needed.

Aperture (the middle left bar in the camera screen)
1. I used F2.0 or F2.8 in my 101 score Misaki photo (I forgot which one), because I don't want her hand to be out of focus while trying to blur the flowers in the background (from my experience in hobby photograph IRL)
The game doesn't partially blur her hand, but I thought I just step down the aperture just in case the game "sees" or deems it as blurring.
2. Use a higher/smaller aperture to defocus/blur busy backgrounds for a single girl portrait, and use a lower/bigger aperture value (e.g F4.0/F5.6/F8.0) for when there are 2 or more girls on the screen, and you want to capture their candid moments, whichever works for you.

Here are more screenshots from the same run, I hope it helps everybody in replicating my score, since my game crashes mid-way while documenting.

Seems the game treats the 3-star photo's background composition as "better balanced" than the 2-star (more "panoramic/landscapey" background i guess), although I personally prefer the 2-star myself.

Did you use the default F2.8 aperture ? I also want to know whether aperture use for blurring backgrounds will affect the photo score or not, or just photo framing/angling will affect the score.
On my 3 star photos i never used exposure or focus, since i have dof disabled (for performance) focus has no effect anyway. My highest so far was 114 no idea what caused it though, here i had 4 3* photos:

Kind of annoyed you get cut off after 50 photos, when I'm taking about 300 per chapter. At least I get to keep them all.
