Season 2 is likely. Season 3... Maybe not.
They very likely have the content for season 2 essentially completed and at least a very large amount of season 3. I suspect we will get these, then the game will 'stop active development' for a bit while the server contracts expire. Then goodbye SS.
They won't just stop without Season 4 because it promises a character players actually wanted with Deathstroke. Since Joker has been added to the game there are four additional lockers lined up in the Hall of Justice which would represent the other three characters coming with each Season. However, there are also more lockers on the wall beyond that for an additional four characters. The game's content has been datamined well into Season 12 though.
I personally don't care for any new character, if they don't revamp the gameplay system, shooting a gun as Deathstroke or Deadshot is not that exciting for me.
But I hope you get all the content you want, even though it's unlikely if player numbers don't turn around.
Steam is fine to get an estimate of possible player numbers but you can't overlook that this game is also a console release. The game also recently launched on March 26th on the Epic Games Store, which adds another unaccounted for set of players. I'm not going to be ridiculous and say it has millions of players but it is something to consider when viewing these player stats. This also isn't the type of game you need to play all of the time. Seasonal content doesn't even expire.
I wanted to comment about this before but I still question the validity of this post since the OP doesn't even own the game they seem to be so strongly championing for.
There are several other indicators, for example amazon often lists sales numbers for the last month. The regional amazon site shows no units on Xbox (which normally means below 50) and 100+ (meaning up to 200) units on PS5.
And the player retention on other platforms is expected to be rather similar to Steam, so maybe there are 2000 CCUs left or even 20000, but it's still a tiny number for a game that was this expensive to make.
And why do you question the op? As you said, some people play on console, I also played the alpha on console.
I understand that but if you're playing on console why would you be checking out the Steam Discussions?
