Very Positive Reviews On Steam... How?
This game has 63/100 on Meta Critic (and Open Critic) and 3.8/10 in User Score. It has been shredded in most reviews, and for good reason. I read that they had less than 15k simultaneous players 24h after launch which is a huge flop.

So, how come it has Very Positive reviews on Steam? Did the developers make a couple hundread fake accounts just to upvote the game?

Because people buying it on steam and keeping the game liked the game?

Because on Steam you need to buy the game in order to review it so it gets genuine reviews.

On all the other review sites any randomer can add a review whether they've played it or not and so weird incels are fuming and leaving bad reviews because they "disrespected batman" and "gays exist".

A lot of reviews are getting deleted, I've never seen Steam be this protective of a bad game. Yesterday the top review was stating how 15,000 reviews got deleted. Steam probably thinks its getting review-bombed and is taking a heavy-handed approach to countering it. Its the most anti-consumer thing I have ever seen Steam do and I'm very disapointed in Gabe.

It'll do a Starfield when PC sales bump up around the first deep sale or free weekend. At the moment, it's people who've bought it and are enjoying it, and good luck to them.

At the top of this screen, click "reviews", and look at the top reviews there to get a better idea of how they're handling reviews here.

For whatever reason, those reviews aren't showing up on the store page, probably because they don't want the top reviews there to be negative with 7,000 up votes.

If there'd been thousands of negative reviews which were deleted overnight then they should have shown up on SteamDB at least, for their weighted score. They haven't. To me, it just looks like the same situation with Starfield (and one of the reasons for publishers to run an 'early access' is my cynical view) where initial negativity is sucked away and the reviews seen at launch are people who paid and like the game.

They're not deleted, just suppressed.

Also, The total on the store page has only gone up from 2400 to 2600 in about the last 15 or so hours, that I don't believe. That total should be around at least 6000-7000 by now, for a game like this.

And if it's not selling, like, if those numbers are legit, and they're only getting 200 reviews a day, then that right there should tell you all you need to know about the game.

Sorry man I missed your edit. Takes me forever to type lol.

It looks like the score is going down 1% per day. Give it time.

Do you have evidence of this? Lots of hearsay right now...

Last night, around midnight, when I went to sleep, I looked at the store page total reviews and thought, "Wow, 2400 (give or take) is low for a game like this.".

Then when I checked it a few minutes ago, it was at 2600 (give or take), and I thought, "There's something up with that.".

That's it though. No screenshots or anything. Just me brain.

Here's the steamdb link for this game, makes it easy to keep an eye on: https://steamdb.info/app/315210/charts/

My rule of thumb, from the indies I know who've shared their data, is that 1 review = 20 sales. So 85k sales maybe? But, yeah, as you say from the relatively small numbers of reviews being added right now, that's the story I think is getting missed in people thinking reviews are getting deleted. People just aren't buying in huge numbers on PC right now and self-selecting reviewers are self-selecting.
CptnSpandex Feb 5, 2024 @ 12:49pm
It was shredded in reviews because the company would not give them early copys to review so they in turn did that, quite common for the game mags peeps to be so petty and childish.
