Genuine debate - Paid DLC content vs Free DLC content but paid cosmetics?

As the title I’m genuinely curious as to why the genuine scope seems to be that people aren’t happy with the battle pass and Mtx skins as compared to paying for the new content.

This game was stated from the get go it was life service.

Obvisouly in a perfect world MTX and paid dlc wouldn’t exist anymore but bar a few games this seems to be non existent anymore.

But when you compare this game to for example Arkham Knight - paid content wise and not the actual quality of the game. surely this would be more beneficial for more players right?

Like I get that the “free expansions” are built into the base price of the SS KTJL so it’s not really free, but would you not prefer to have the actual gameplay and story content always to be free and have some standard cosmetics that fit the scope of the story and then the cosmetics be paid?

For example with Arkham knight there was the paid dlc story content. Yes you had outfits and cosmetics. But surely that locks of more of the community to the actual content that matter?

Genuinely curious. Not debating the quality of the game as it’s clear AK is held with higher regard, but as gaming seems to be more and more moving towards this trend.

I get what your saying and I agree with you in sense, but this game was announced at the beginning as a live service, like we can’t surely put it down for not being in the category that we would prefer.

I'd rather have a feature complete game where costumes are just unlocked through progress.
