I have over 13 hours in the SS game, I've completed the story and now just levelling my squad. So yes, I have played it. I've also played each Arkham Batman game, bought them on the consoles and I also last year bought them for my Steam account.
I'm not sure what else they could have done with boss fights in a looter shooter. In terms of his death however the story is not over yet - we have upcoming seasons which will continue the story. I really can't imagine Rocksteady would allow the Justice League to stay dead, I'm positive they will make a return among the citizens of Metropolis.
And man, THIS is Kevin Conroy's last perfromance as the Batman? Such a shame.
The whole premise is 'how can these 4 minor villains take on the Justice League' and that was what drew me in. Overall, believe it or not, I did actually like it.
I mean, a few minor connections?
Joker being dead, Harley being in the Asylum since Knight, Boomerang commenting 'I thought Deadshot was White'... etc... I will admit, if the game was more aesthetically like Arkham games (all dark and gritty) then it would make it feel more in that universe, but the SS are supposed to be all colourful and goofy I guess?
Batman was absolutely terrifying. The mission where you're trapped in the museum while he's lurking in the dark, picking off the squad 1 by 1... It was great to see it from the villains point of view. In the Arkham games I was always thinking they were overreacting, it's not scary and they're just cowards - but this made me see it in a whole new light. Also I like how in certain parts of the game you can see Batman stalking you from a distance, and I enjoyed hearing him talk over the comms. I do wish there were more, but we had a decent amount I suppose.
From what I gathered he died when he was brainwashed and it couldn't be reverted. Harley's speech was creative, it's amazing how she accused him of 'emotionally & physically traumatising everyone he knew' - this is a perfect demonstration of how warped her point of view is, she still thinks Batman is somehow the bad guy and still blames him for Joker's death.
I wouldn't say the game's perfect, but it's no where near as bad as many are insisting.
