I thought the umbrella was more a Penguin thing. Joker was more of a crowbar guy.
Agreed, I think having him use Balloons would have fit him better. They could explain it by maybe having him be a Cobblepot who became Joker instead, or maybe its a "Trophy" from his Universes Penguin.
Either way when I look at its Shape it looks like a Bat. Should be splattered with Green Paint and have a Smiley Face on it if its the Jokers.
The main thing I get from that clips is affirmation of good the writing and cutscenes are and how awful the gameplay seems.
No, the Joker has not been "Campy" since the around the Early 80's. I never once took a look at the Joker from Death in a Family, and thought "Campy". That Joker is the one we have had, outside of some Cartoons, since.
Purple suit, flowers, flamboyance.. of course he is camp. Even the rocksteady Hamill version was camp. Look at his movement for example. Obviously there are varying degrees of campness across the jokers, down to almost zero in some cases.
When I was kid I used to watch the Batman tv show with Adam West. Cesar Romerer's Joker was a bit campy. I think it was with Tim Burton's movie Batman 1989 that his public perception took a more dark undertone. Then came the animated series that featured Mark Hamill as the Joker.
I think the design of this new Joker is okay. It's his voice and maybe the writing that kills it for me. They made this Joker insecure or something.
That because they kept the same look for the time he was Campy. Honestly though I find the look far more frightening because of how he acts. He uses those looks to deceive those who dont/didnt know who he was. Its a type of Psychological Horror at this point, nothing like the Adam West Batman Campy Joker.
