Currently getting by on high volatility with bought designs but that isn't going to last; five years on, 22 research centers, and around 100 techs later I've not unlocked any new designs despite assurances from the techs themselves that I should.
To be clear, again, I'm looking for solutions for a game in progress.
It is more than likely a setting in My Options, either at game start menu or the ESC in game menu.
Here is a 22 second video which I hope will help;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX_7T9wFJR8&list=PLCsuIVA3xcptmaU8RC5YKEYLjEatC5X4q&index=22
It is not an issue of designs I have turned off, made obsolete, etc - it is an issue that as the UN you cannot unlock any new unit designs via research (seemingly). An example; I research a sub design technology that claims it unlocks unit designs however no new designs show up available for research (or construction).
This is the same for ALL technologies that lead to unit design technologies - none of them will unlock new research in the unit design tabs under research. This is a run-killing issue if there isn't a way around it.
After looking at it some more, I believe the start has such a low technology rating there is not much useful, e.i. modern. This happens in all starts with "third world"/"minor" nations. Designs are region specific and the major nations get them from the get go.
The good news is eventually, years down the line, you will have access to future technology same as the 1st world/Major nations. There will be much research you need to churn through before you get there though.
Appreciate the testing. I'll comment again if something goes wrong!
I've had this issue on many scenario using many nations ; when a nation has a problem with it's design it may not be al designs. Ex.: USA in CW can't build Worcester or DesMoines class but if an ally ask to buy the design, it's possible ! ...can't buy it back and use it though. The problem can't always be fixed using the option panel. I fix the problem by using the cheat allunit so I can research any design. I simply limit myself to my current tech ability and abstain from cheesing it to much so I don't use design a current ennemy nation use. I feel appropriate to use designs that are supposed to be issued by my nation and nations I conquered.
Wait, does the 'allunit' cheat just unlock all designs available for your tech level for research for all designs for all tech levels for all research - also does it unlock the designs themselves or the research for them? It'd be a good fix if it just was all unit designs for my tech level or just the option to research them. I'm going for a world conquest run so having designs sometime before I land on Mars would help a lot with fighting any nation that was stronger than Brasil.
