Java VM issue on Mac
I can't seem to get the game to start: getting the message "You need at least a 11 Java Virtual Machine to install Age of Conquest IV". I've updated Java and that all seems to be fine - I also tried uninstalling/reinstalling as recommended in other comments but couldn't identify and delete the 'jre' directory mentioned.

I'm on an M1 Mac running Ventura.

Sorry for the troubles. I tried to fix it, but it somehow still doesn't work. I don't have a Mac with M1 yet, so it's difficult to test. The game comes bundle with Java 11, so you do NOT have to install Java (the error message will stay as reported by other players even if you install Java 11 separately).

If you go into the game's Steam directory and run the game there directly, does it work?

Also, I think the following universal Mac OS binary should work:
Please note, it's the same binary that I use for Steam, so I'm little bit puzzled about the error message.

Brilliant, thank you! Downloaded from your site, installed and running perfectly. Odd that the Steam instance doesn't work the same way.

@noblemaster do you plan on fixing for mac m1 on steam?

Yes, I'm still planning to fix it. I still have a Mac with the x86 CPU, so it's not possible for me to look into and fix at the moment. Sorry for the wait.

All good. Just glad it ain't an abandoned issue

It's fixed now in this latest relase 4.40.358. The game should now run normally also on Silicon Macs (M1/M2). It works on my computer.

NOTE: there can be crashes from resizing the game window. Just entering/exiting fullscreen mode is fine, but resizing the widonw might end in crashes. It's on my todo list. It's not the game but an external library, so my hands are somewhat tied to what I can do.
