Anyone know what the math is on the dragons before it becomes a negative?

You mean the when adding more dragons is worse? 17 dragons gives -48% for each dragon, resulting in 884% total dragon damage. 16 is 880% (16*55%) and 18 is 864 (18*48%). With lower than 2000 souls, saving 8 souls by only having 16 dragons is better (assuming you're spending the souls on goblin/cultist). Otherwise 17 is best.
