Crash Course on Mighty No.9 Controversy
I just wanted to make this post, because there seem to be some posters that think the Mighty No.9 hate is just some bandwagon or something, instead of justified fury by angry and hurt fans, so I just wanted to list a few things that happened so people can get a better understanding of why this game is getting so much hate:

(1) - Mighty No.9 asked for $900k, and ended up receiving $4m+
which somehow turned a game from

looking like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UXDiQrgI6M

to looking like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YngbHOz--oc

now you might think to yourself (well it's multi-platform so of course they had to downgrade it), but how is it such a huge downgrade, when the WEAKEST system in the console platform stretch goals is the 3DS, has some games that beat Mighty No.9 graphically and mechanically. You also might think to yourself (well the money was for the stretch goals) which I'll address in point 2.

(2) - Before Mighty No.9 was even finished, and I believe in between the delays or maybe even before it, Inafune started ANOTHER Kickstarter for the Red Ash series (spiritual successor to the Legends series), confirmed an ANIMATED SERIES to be done, and apparently was in talks for a live-action film. How can you be okay with Inafune trying to create a franchise for a game when it's not even done or out yet? Idk about you, but it's logical for me that part of the $4m was used for this stuff, and it's unnacceptable.

(3) - The Dina Debacle, in which a feminist with an agenda (Dina Abou Karam) was part of the Mighty No.9 community, responsible for making sure our voice was being heard by the higher ups (giving Inafune our feedback/ideas/etc). She was hired due to nepotism (her "BF" worked on the project) since she wasn't even an MM player at all, and was responsible for censoring a lot of concerns from backers, even banning accounts from the main site (which the account itself you earned as a backer reward), with some of the banned backers being part of GamerGate (which she had a twitter post telling us how she really felt about that)

Worst part about this is how backers were promised professionals with decades of experience, but instead we got Dina, who admitted to not being a Megaman player.

Here's a more in depth video about the whole situation:

https://youtu.be/mZWHUnFqPhg

(4) - Hideki Kamiya himself warned us about this on twitter, saying Inafune is a business man and that's it. https://twitter.com/pg_kamiya/status/249735186936369153

(5) - Delays upon delays upon delays, for a game that has shoddy level design, ugly ps1-ps2 graphics, and cringe worthy voice acting that doesn't even include the character's mouth moving.

(6) - the masterclass trailer I linked earlier, which is on the steam page itself and is another slap in the face to the fans.

(7) - Ben Judd (Advisor/Partner Sourcing) basically called out fans as "salty" during the Mighty No.9 release livestream on twitch earlier today.

I'm sure I've missed some things, but I'm getting more and more angry the more stuff I list, so I'll just finish here and recommend that my fellow backers who got conned to post their experiences with the controversy as well.

All in all, there is no hate "bandwagon", just a bunch of hurt backers who threw money at someone they believed in for a dream, and ended up having their dreams shattered and laughed at.

Never again, I learned my lesson the hard way, and Inafune will never see a cent from me again.

[EDIT: HERE'S MORE FROM THE POSTS IN THIS THREAD]

(8) - "At the end of the day, even if [Mighty No. 9] is not perfect, it's better than nothing"
- Ben Judd

(9) - Delayed again on XBOX 360:

(10) - Ray and Retro DLC activation codes messed up from launch, duplicate DLC, PSN activation codes not working, wrong area activation codes, backers not receiving any content:

https://twitter.com/MightyNo9/status/745184795991302144

(11) - Despite looking very simple (to suit multiple platforms), the game has heavy frame rate drops and bad graphical stutters during crucial moments on Nintendo and PlayStation 4 (all versions are affected to a degree)

EDIT: ended up compiling my thoughts and feelings into a video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBj-bwZVqYs

it's basically a dumbed down version of what you're reading here, but I still wanted to make it to help spread this around so we don't have a bunch of Mighty No.9 fans not understanding why backers are angry.

Gotta also take note that banned Backers also lost EVERYTHING they backed.

Beta access, backer rewards, game code, etc.

They lost ALL of it.

I wasn't even aware of that. Seriously? Is there a source on that? because I'll add it to the OP if I can give people a place to see that.

I'm not sure about others, but one of my best friends had this happen to her.

Sadly, I have no access to her email accounts or anything of that sort, plus it would be kinda disrespectful to go through someone's personals after they've passed on.

WOW.. just wow, I thought the complaints where mostly from a graphic stand point, which i agree with, any megaman game should never be a 2.5D platformer, it just doesn't look right, plus the kiddie graphics don 't help it much either, but this is beyond control.. I'm glad i know this now, will never support this company

GamerGate is a hate group and its (visibly continuing) attempts at assassinating Dina Abou Karam's character are truly despicable.

accurate, good work. i lost a lot of respect for the game when we had the dina incident. the fact that there were multiple delays in addition to financial mismanagement was another nail in the coffin. the final nail was the decay in quality, because they had a lot of time to develop the game and the results are simply not on par with any other project.

sympathy and support to anyone that feels backstabbed by these developers.

Don't care what side of the fence you sit on. The point is she decided to ban people and take away their posting privleges that they were rewarded for since they donated to the kickstarter, just because they were part of GamerGate, with other bans to other people sharing their concerns about the game.

Once more though, I don't give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about your opinion of GG, because that's not the point of this post.

added the link to the kamiya tweet just to add proof to my points

That's quite a nice summary of the complaints I'd subscribe to as well. I've been mostly a silent watcher during this whole mess, but with each update I felt like witnessing a car crash playing out in real slow motion. :steamsad:

even though I backed the game I really didn't follow it up to this point. I'm about halfway through the game and I feel like I didn't get what was promised. it feels like shovelware to me and looks and plays worse than mm 7 and 8 imo. if the graphics were either pixel or had a style the game would look less dated as well. I feel they didn't actually know their audience very well.

Good stuff, except the link to Kamiya's tweet. Who cares what he thinks or says when he's not busy telling all his fans to ♥♥♥♥ off on Twitter? It's not relevant anyway; if Inafune is a business man, that should be a good thing for managing a product like this. Such information has nothing to do with the controversey.

Delayed again on XBOX 360:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/06/21/mighty-no-9-delayed-again-on-xbox-360

Twitchers, Youtubers and well-known reviewers got the game way before the largest ($500+) backers got it, many experience this as being rather unfair.

Ray and Retro DLC activation codes messed up from launch, duplicate DLC, PSN activation codes not working, wrong area activation codes, backers not receiving any content:

Man, I'm really disappointed by all this. I had hoped for a smooth, trouble-free release :(
