Mega Man 1 was pretty bad/mediocre too,
I'm serious, Mega Man 1 was not a success, and Capcom didn't even wanted to make a sequel.

But creators of Mega Man BEGGED Capcom to let them make a sequel, so they made Mega Man 2, which turned out GREAT.

Same with all other Mega Man series. X2 is better than X, Zero 2 is better than Zero, ZX Advent is better than ZX, Battle Network 2 is better than Battle Network 1.

...Seriously, guys, if there would be Mighty Number 9 II, then it would be SO GOOD, that you will immideately forget about MN9's fail.

Beck's character isn't bad, not against another attempt.

I've always been a firm believer that a developer can make a mistake.
Nobody's perfect, after all.

I can put up with a game's problems, if at the end of the day I can ask: "Did (developer) learn from their mistake(s)?"
----

Such as with Metroid: Other M.
Yes, it had problems. Lots of problems.
But the bigger question is, did Mr. Sakamoto learn from his mistakes?
If so, great! Maybe his next attempt will be much better.

Likewise, with this game, did Mr. Inafune learn from his mistakes?
If so, great!
I look forward to seeing his next project.

The problem is there are already other games with great features to base ideas on, such as the original Megaman series and Megaman X. X1 was a great game, still fun to play to this day, so that wasn't a strike out in any way. X2 built on that, X3 expanded in meaningless ways and upped the difficulty but was still great. They could've learned from the past games to make a better one in the future, instead we got this so it shows lack of learning from history and past successes/failures.

Exactly. And also considering Inafune was part of the team working on the game, he already has past experiences to work from.

Eh....to be honest I think these devs need to be put out to pasture. I do not think even a new official Megaman title will be good with the old blood developers still having a hand in it. Just start with the base of the Megaman X games, work from there. Too many devs are too dumb to take what works and merely update it with small improvements, always trying different stuff for the sake of being different and torpedoing the series because of that bad development ethos of "change as a priority". SPAZ 2, Star Ruler 2, list goes on and on of various games that pivoted from what was good and swapped it for new cringe-worthy ideas.

Well, Ratchet and Clank 2 featured a lot of updates compared to RnC1, that original RnC1 looks mediocre.
I am, personally, fine with updates... Maybe it's because i grew on Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Trilogy, and each game looks drastically different from each other. Sands of Time has cute arabic-tale style, while Warrior Within has more GodofWar-styled blood, and The Two Thrones has a lot of Stealth. I am fine with each, and each game to me is like a separate experience...

...That's a good approach.
Do not condifer Mega Man 2 to be a part of Mega Man series, consider it just a Mega Man 2. Every game has it's own feel and atmosphere.

As for "What does work"... um. Mega Man 2 is just a well-made platformer game. I don't like that it has only one boss music, and it has complete lack of cutscenes to show the personalities of robot bosses... (I grew up with a pirated NES-clone Dendy, and i had game "Samurai Pizza Cats" and it had a lot of cutscenes, and i loved to watch them every time... even though i did not understand anything they said, as it was in japanese. And yes, i played both modern and old games at that time, due to Dendy and PC)

And i don't want new-blood developers to make continuations...
I don't like Sonic Mania, because it does not have that awesome feel as 90's Sonic Games... with every game you felt progression, but with Sonic Mania you feel a major step back.

They should let Platinum Games to make an awesome 3D Mega Man game ^_^
I love 3D shooters that play like slashers. Like Dirge of Cerberus.

Problem is, when you don't change much, then a series grows stale.
That was one of Mega Man's problems - Capcom didn't allow it to change, and it got kinda stale.
(As seen with complaints about Mega Man 9 and 10)
------

As for these devs, you likely don't have to worry.
Considering that because of this game's poor sales, Level-5 bought Comcept.

So Mighty No. 9 is now owned by the people that made Dark Cloud, Professor Layton, Ni no Kuni, and Yo-kai Watch.
-----

As for Mega Man, considering what they've shown with Mega Man 11, it looks like it might be pretty good.
I like the 2.5D they're going for, and it looks like it may work well.

...Of course, the big question is if Capcom will actually release it, considering they've burned us before.
(as seen with Mega Man Universe and Mega Man Legends 3. "It's coming, it's coming...oh, never mind, we just cancelled it a few weeks from release. Ha ha ha!").

I think we all know how Megaman 1 is the worst of the original series, but it was still inspired and charming. The series has long passed evolved from that. Mighty Number 9 can try to evolve, but it needs to drastically change to walk out of the shadow of a much better series.

Considering Level-5 now owns Comcept (and thus probably own Mighty no. 9 as well), we may yet get to see if they can overhaul it.

That's the thing, Mega Man 1 was the first game, the developers were fairly green in terms of that style of game and couldn't implement them as well as they wanted. Also fairly sure Capcom didn't invest a great deal of money into the game.
Now compare Mighty No 9, a game made by Inafune and his team with dozens of similar games that provide a template as well as years if not decades of experience, this, coupled with 4 million dollars of funding. And it was terrible.
So while Mighty No 9 II, if it comes out, may be good. this game has shaken the fanbase's faith in Inafune, and a good sequel won't wipe it away that easily

They could honestly make a good sequel

But I doubt i'd go as far as to back much into it. Skeptical rather than enthusiastic.

nice bait, lol. Anyway, megaman 1 wasnt a "bad game", it may have not been as popular as expected, which is another deal and more so in the early era of nes; which is your source about that trivia? nintendo became a big thing at the end of the 80s worldwide, but in its early years even if it was becoming the most popular gaming system outside japan, people were also discovering the concept of "console gaming systems" (devs, consumers, publishers, etc).

The first megaman sold well, but maybe not as much as some business people wanted. Anyway, it was and is still considered a good game. The first megaman x is also considered one of the greatest games of the snes, and x2 isnt better, but is considered "as good as" the first x. Later megaman x games had different degrees of quality in design and gameplay. The franchise lost power after the non 2d sidescrolling games.
