Game development can be stressful, especially when you rather blatantly disparage a large group of people while allowing degenerate activities to be happening in their game. The game is about chatting and fishing, not roleplaying brushing your animal's fur and grooming on the beach like half the community still playing seems to be doing anymore.
There's plenty (six, to be exact) of the alphabet mafia's titles in-game but there's only one for straight people and it's in quotes to say "straight" with a description of "mhm" -- rather obviously disparaging "casuals" who just wanted to fish without political stuff being pushed into their faces.
While "live service" games are bad for the gaming industry as a whole, there's still plenty of games out there that got extra content added to the game by the devs whether as free updates or as DLC items.
I think that the reason people think this game is "unfinished" is because it's not as big and content packed as most other games that come out now. They expect more, when in reality they paid $5 for a fishing game by a single person (whose life likely changed drastically due to the paycheck they raked in from the game)
Also, these same people who're complaining about lack of content and things to do in a FISHING GAME likely have the same attention span as most of the things they're catching from the waters in the game if they're really needing "more to do"
i'm certain they're still working on it, considering this kind of game can generate an infinite amount of money through being only $5 and people wanting somewhere more accessible to hang out compared to something like tower unite or second life
