game is dead?
Why did the developers abandon the game? Because of the engine that can't do much, or because the developers have no ideas? Or do they just not see the point in working on the game? Does anyone know what's going on? Was the game just a simple idea?

I downloaded some mods a while back and then deleted them upon realising my game does not work properly anymore. Even after that, it is still a problem. I cannot see people, even my friends and I can't see anyone chatting. It is like I am playing on private server even if the server is full. I checked the game files, redownloaded multiple times and still nothing. I feel silly because I don't where to write this but if anyone has any tips, please do tell.

Yeah actually it does. This expecting updates for every single game is the 'live service' attitude I'm talking about. It's gross. Let the game be the game. Not every single game needs a roadmap.
the community is fed up you are a dumb slave to the garbage indie industry the game is completely unoptimized and runs on a single CPU core without mods and has a memory leak the size of my ass putting out updates to a successful game is GOOD FOR THE DEVELOPER this will be remembered as a flash in the pan "what could have been" story when someone makes the same game concept but doesn't abandon it after one month

this person literally helped make the most recent update btw so feel free to blame them for doing a bad job!

I hope that this game is working in the future on the steamdeck
its not abandoned! the creator just needed a break after release because at this point this game has been in-dev for a long time. a game doesnt need weekly updates to keep it alive lol, do you see games like portal and l4d getting weekly content updates?
"you are a dumb slave to the garbage indie industry" games used to release complete on discs that you put into your hardware. and thats all you got. a full game. this game is $5, has hours of content, and most of all- IT IS A CHAT ROOM. if you think its dead maybe youre actually just an asocial troglodyte?

Portal 2 received updates after a long time, as did L4D, and a lot of content is still being created for these games to this day.

Edit: If it's unclear, what I'm saying below is there's multiple reasons why the dev has done what they've done and seemingly abandoned the game. Controversial game changes and overtolerance for negativity within the community likely caused too large of a lashback for the developer to be okay tolerating personally and as such they probably chose to just cut and run since the game is "complete" in their eyes and by how it's advertised.

Game development can be stressful, especially when you rather blatantly disparage a large group of people while allowing degenerate activities to be happening in their game. The game is about chatting and fishing, not roleplaying brushing your animal's fur and grooming on the beach like half the community still playing seems to be doing anymore.

no one said that but okay bro
There's plenty (six, to be exact) of the alphabet mafia's titles in-game but there's only one for straight people and it's in quotes to say "straight" with a description of "mhm" -- rather obviously disparaging "casuals" who just wanted to fish without political stuff being pushed into their faces.

While "live service" games are bad for the gaming industry as a whole, there's still plenty of games out there that got extra content added to the game by the devs whether as free updates or as DLC items.

I think that the reason people think this game is "unfinished" is because it's not as big and content packed as most other games that come out now. They expect more, when in reality they paid $5 for a fishing game by a single person (whose life likely changed drastically due to the paycheck they raked in from the game)
Also, these same people who're complaining about lack of content and things to do in a FISHING GAME likely have the same attention span as most of the things they're catching from the waters in the game if they're really needing "more to do"

Not only has the dev deleted the official game website AND discord, they have been near radio silent for the last two months outside of releasing a plushie. The chat game where you talk to people literally has a bug that makes it so you CAN'T EVEN SEE THE NAMES OF PEOPLE YOU ARE TALKING TO. There is no real way to determine who places chalk so people just go around spamming swastikas everywhere. The game is so dead that the scripters got bored and stopped crashing lobbies. The most recent update made it so servers with more than 12 players just get hidden for no reason. The dedicated members of the community are leaving and no amount of "you only paid $5 lol" will change that. Have fun plugging your ears and going lalalala as the player counts slip lower and lower.
webfishing as a whole right now is in a drought of being a very underwhelming game with poor quality of life updates. It may be a five dollar game but that doesn't excuse the fact the dev "abandon" their game. But it's still up to LAMEdev (no pun intended) to update the game (if they're in a good mood LMAO). Please. just enjoy this crappy mess of a chatroom game while you can, and stop complaining.

the last update was pretty big and took a minute to come out

i'm certain they're still working on it, considering this kind of game can generate an infinite amount of money through being only $5 and people wanting somewhere more accessible to hang out compared to something like tower unite or second life
